Fleeing to Big Sur.

The election really had me down this weekend, so I impetuously decided to flee to nature. It was nice to be without access to Twitter and the news cycle, even if for just a night.

The drive down Highway 1 can always be a bit harrowing, especially in the dark, but after fighting through a ton of traffic and driving through some bizarrely tiny parts of California's Central Coast (Soquel, anyone? It's a city?) we found our way to the Fernwood Resort.

Bit of a Bates Motel type deal, no? I actually had a bit of anxiety sleeping out in the quiet motel cabin; felt like we were ripe to be murdered. Which isn't a comment on the Fernwood Resort itself; the place was actually quite lovely and convenient.

The next day, we made stop offs at Vista Point, McWay Falls, and the Ewoldsen/Canyon Falls trail:

Remnants of Soberanes. Lots of blackened trees on our hike.
